Tailored return-to-work planning and support
Returning to work after an injury or illness is one of the most critical and often overlooked phases of recovery. Without proper planning, the risk of re-injury, prolonged absence, and reduced morale increases significantly for both the employee and the employer. At Injury Prevention Plus, our team of ergonomists, with kinesiology and occupational therapy expertise, specializes in supporting safe, confident, and sustainable workplace reintegration.
Our return-to-work assessments incorporate functional capacity evaluations, job demand analysis, and on-site ergonomic coaching to ensure that every worker's return is grounded in evidence, aligned with their medical healing timeline, and built around what their body can actually do, not just what their job requires.
Why return-to-work assessments matter
Without proper return-to-work planning and functional capacity evaluation, employers and employees face:
Increased risk of re-injury from premature or poorly supported return
Prolonged absence and escalating WSIB or insurance costs
Legal exposure under Ontario's Human Rights Code duty-to-accommodate obligations
Reduced employee confidence, morale, and long-term retention
Communication breakdowns between HR, supervisors, and healthcare providers
A proactive, individualized return-to-work assessment anchored in functional capacity evaluations and ergonomic expertise is the most effective way to bridge the gap between medical recovery and safe, sustained workplace reintegration.
What we offer
We provide comprehensive support throughout the return-to-work process, including:
Functional job matching based on the worker's current abilities and documented job demands
On-site return-to-work assessments to evaluate posture, movement patterns, and task setup
Job coaching to guide employees and employers through a structured, safe transition
Customized return-to-work plans aligned with medical healing timelines and functional goals
Accommodation strategy development in compliance with Ontario's Human Rights Code
WSIB documentation support including modified duty planning and claim coordination
Whether the injury is occupational or non-occupational, our team ensures that job demands are aligned with the employee's current functional abilities, and that every stakeholder has the information they need to support a successful reintegration.
Our Process: 4 Key Components
COMPONENT 1 : JDA / PDA review
We begin by reviewing the Job Demands Analysis (JDA) or Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) to understand the full physical and cognitive requirements of the role the worker is returning to.
COMPONENT 2 : Functional capacity evaluation & job matching
We compare the employee's functional capacity evaluation (FAE) findings (or complete an FAE as required) with the documented job demands to identify compatible tasks and recommend accommodations where needed.
COMPONENT 3 : On-site return-to-work assessment
Conducted at the employee's actual workstation or job site, we assess posture, movement patterns, and the work environment, providing ergonomic coaching and recommending modifications to support a safe return.
COMPONENT 4 : Job coaching & stakeholder collaboration
We collaborate with the employee, employer, and healthcare providers to monitor progress, adjust plans as needed, and support a gradual, sustainable return to full duties.

WSIB & Ontario Human Rights Code compliance
In Ontario, employers have a legal duty to accommodate workers returning from injury or illness to the point of undue hardship under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC). WSIB also requires employers to make early and safe return-to-work offers for injured workers. Our functional capacity evaluations and return-to-work assessments provide the objective documentation and structured planning support needed to meet these obligations, protecting both the employer and the employee.
